2004-01-01

Once again Madame Alexander is presenting a charming International collection. This grouping, as with those in years past celebrates the cultural diversity that encircles the globe.

San Genero Festival celebrates Italy with an 8" Latin Wendy who has brown eyes and a curly mop of black hair that has been mussed in the hectic whirl of her busy day. Wearing a dress that has a dotted Swiss bodice with a wide neckline, puffed sleeves and a full, red and white gingham skirt with a faggoted trim at the hem. Her petticoat, step-ins and socks are white and have all been trimmed with lace. Red Mary Jane's and roses in her hair and on her skirt set the mood for a day at the festival.

For The Luck of the Irish you'll need this 8" new, classic Wendy and her 5" mini vinyl Leprechaun with the comical face and his own pot of gold. Her Irish linen dress has shamrocks on the collar and. a green pleated skirt with a plaid trim. The Luck of the Irish's leprechaun looks just as he should with a green tailcoat with a gold shamrock on the lapel, a whisper green top hat, a multicolored shirt, orange bowtie and blue belt with a gold buckle. Green knickers, striped stockings and black, gold buckled shoes complete his outfit. Catch him by the tail of his coat and his gold is yours.

Mexico comes wearing a traditional full skirt decorated with ribbons and a white peasant blouse trimmed with red ribbon. Mexico, an 8" brunette with coiled braids, dark eyes and Latin skin tone will bring her burro piñata to your house.

The most beautiful little island girls come from Fiji. She is dressed in a ribbon adorned shirt, leaf anklets, bracelets, and a flower headdress and a "bark cloth" skirt. Bark cloth is used in Fiji to celebrate special occasions, and this 8' doll with curly dark hair and brown eyes has much to celebrate, for she's found a home with Madame Alexander. And to show her thanks, she's brought a gift, a Fiji "god", who is always depicted as a shark. In this case, a plush one.

Too hot outside for you? Then Yukon is your girl. This blond 8" with her white overalls and turtleneck will cool you down. With her mittens, blue fleece scarf, and blue knit jacket with fur trim, she'll make you think of lovely, cool powdery snow and lovely frigid climes. She'll get to your house on her dogsled, pulled by her three huskies, each of who has their own ribbon harness.

Cuba is another hot little number! A Wendy Latin with brown eyes, she's dressed for languid days in her two-piece, hot pink and ivory ruffled skirt and top. Her curly black hair is decorated with flowers and white sandals adorn her feet. You'll hear Cuba coming for she'll be dancing to the rhythm of her maracas.

Don't like the cold? Then how about a visit to India? It's nice and hot there, which is why the clothes are so vibrant. The dark haired, brown-eyed 8" African-American doll wears traditional garb, magenta, silk ghagra (skirt) with woven gold edging, a yellow choli (bodice), and a sheer chunni (veil). India has gold trimmed sandals, a plush elephant decorated with gold and jewels, and, the traditional "henna" pattern on her hands and a dot on her head.

Madame Alexander has decided to revisit places she has always loved, so she'll be returning to Spain, Sweden, Norway, Greece, Peru, Australia, Russia, Portugal and another part of Italy. She's also planning to see La Petite Mademoiselle and U.S.A. Betsy Ross.
